“Philip was my corporate law tutor whilst studying for my Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Glasgow. Not only was Philip an extremely engaging and encouraging tutor, he was also a great source of advice to me when it came to life beyond the Diploma. I approached him with a view to getting some tips on how to enhance my CV and Covering Letter; he was more than happy to take time out of his busy schedule to speak to me and gave lots of constructive and very valued feedback. Philip has a vast amount of commercial and legal knowledge and I feel very grateful to have benefited from his practical and expert advice. It is clear that he wants his students to achieve their absolute potential, and that is something I really appreciate. Thank you, Philip!”

The Diploma is a vocational course which cultivates the ethical rules, practical knowledge and personal skills required of Scottish lawyers while introducing the candidate to the practices, values and attitudes of the legal profession. It is a sharp shift in focus from undergraduate academia, with its intricate theoretical concepts to intensive skills-based learning and professional training. Philip was awarded the post-graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from King's College, University of Aberdeen, in 2000 with merit (tax). Elective subjects included the Formation and Management of Companies (a predecessor of the modern “corporate” and “company law” variants).
